Is art the only way to ask paradoxical questions?

ARTE - Visions of the Future: art, genetics and artificial intelligence - Tomás Saraceno

Socrates used paradoxes to refute his opponents.

The paradox is to be understood as a position that goes against the common opinion (from the Greek "para", against and "doxa" the common opinion).

Contemporary artists seem to come out of this same way of thinking.

They use art to ask questions that upset. And the one that probably disturbs the most is the famous "what if? A question that I use in my scenarios emergence workshops.

The ARTE documentary, entitled "Visions of the Future: art, genetics and artificial intelligence", takes you into a disturbing territory, featuring artists who do not hesitate to ask paradoxical questions. They all navigate at the borders of art and science, pushing the latter into areas where ethics can be questioned.

The artists presented in this documentary are Tomás Saraceno, Maja Smrekar, Pierre Huyghe, Trevor Paglen, Charlotte Jarvis, and of course Marina Abramović

The notion of art is here redefined and science "augmented".

Art, whether pictorial or otherwise, is, without doubt, one of the most adequate media to allow us to think differently, envisage alternatives, redefine boundaries, and allow radical innovations.

It is a very useful medium to envisage scenarios of reflection on the future.

In short, everything we need right now.

Go there without prejudice or judgment but be prepared to be shaken up!

To be watched urgently on the ARTE platform!
